Little Blog is getting ready to go the beach, but she has that earnest look in her big eyes.

“Mommy, are there real pirates in the real world?”

Her big sister, Sunshine, rolls her eyes.

“Yes, Little Blog,” says Mom.

“But Mommy, do they look like real pirates, like with one eye and a patch and a hat and a hook and they talk funny?”

“No Little Blog, real pirates don’t look like that. They wear normal clothes and they are very bad people.”

“Are there real pirates at our beach?’

“No, Little Blog. At least we hope there aren’t.”

Little Blog takes only 4 seconds to ponder the possibility.

“Do you know what I’ll do if I see a real pirate coming onto the beach?”

“What will you do, Little Blog?”

“Run away and tell Daddy.”

This is too much for Sunshine.

“And Mommy, do you know what I would do?”

“What would you do, Sunshine?”

“First I would take a photo of the pirate. Then I would write down everything about the pirate to do a school project on pirates. Then I would run away and tell Daddy.”

Negotiations will now begin with the pirates union to secure – prior to any rampage on a public beach – a mandatory photo opportunity and notes breaks for touring school groups
